200 law profs call for Canada to "immediately stop blocking refugee claimants from crossing the border from the US into Canada"

More than 200 law professors across Canada have signed an open letter to the Immigration Minister, calling on the government to immediately stop turning back refugee claimants at the US-Canada border under the Safe Third Country Agreement.

During an emergency debate in Parliament last night, the NDP proposed invoking Article 10 to suspend the agreement for the period of President Trump's refugee ban and lifting the government's cap on privately-sponsored refugees so that Canadians who wish to assist can do so. The government has so far refused to take action in response to President Trump's ban.
