OPPOSITION TO ENBRIDGE NORTHERN GATEWAY MOUNTS AS DECISION LOOMS

OTTAWA – Citing the opposition of two-thirds of British Columbians, and serious risks to the environment, local economies and jobs, New Democrats called on Conservatives to reject the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline project today in the House of Commons.

“When are Conservatives going to stand up, listen to British Columbians, and say no to this bad idea?“ said NDP Finance Critic Nathan Cullen (Skeena—Bulkley Valley).

“First Nations, municipalities and British Columbians, have overwhelmingly said no to Northern Gateway,” said NDP National Revenue Critic Murray Rankin (Victoria).  “Now we have 300 scientists, from around the world, saying the Joint Review Panel report has so many errors and omissions, it cannot be used to make decisions about the pipeline – this government must finally say no Enbridge Northern Gateway.”

A decision from the Conservative government on the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline proposal is expected in the coming weeks.
