Poverty and Homelessness
November 25th, 2012 - 4:57pm
BC has the worst rate of poverty and the second worst rate of child poverty in the country. Canada is the only G8 country without a national housing strategy, and it shows. Homelessness is a growing crisis throughout Victoria.
The scale of this crisis goes well beyond the capabilities of the municipal and provincial governments. It is time for the federal government to do its fair share.
An NDP Promise
Working with the provinces, the NDP will enact legislation to ensure secure, adequate, accessible and affordable housing. Murray will advocate for cross-party support of Bill C-400, “An Act to ensure secure, adequate, accessible and affordable housing for Canadians”, which would require a national housing strategy to be established.
Together we can ensure that all Canadians have a roof over their head.
